This is THE LAST place you want to be! (From here you are probably going somewhere else... )
We're not trying to be a complete listing of links by any stretch. But we can point your browser in the right directions... If you have any problems "Linking up", or if you know of a missing link that should be here, send us a hyper-telegram!...
Our Favorites!
Light Rail Products If
you love traction (like I do:), and if you are modeling large
scale, then a visit to Karl's website is definitely in order!
Karl has a terrific line of parts and kits covering the entire
pallet of trolleys and traction. There is a wealth of information,
plans, photos and inside information here as well. Karl is a
sweetheart of a guy and I know he will help any modeler who simply
asks. The site is a bit cumbersome, but the true trolley person
will wade through and find a huge amount of useful info (like
I did). There are even complete step by step kit bashing tutorials!
Makes me wish I were into the 'small' (1/2":) scales.
Scale Products Company Dennis 'Bones' Evers and crew offer some pretty neat and oftentimes unusual products. From working signals and crossing gates to complete locomotives in almost any scale (including full scale!), these fine people have found a niche, and filled it. They have built props and systems for theme parks, attractions, casinos and for 'mom and pop' outfits, they even build training equipment for the real railroads. Worth a visit to see their quality work.
Lex Parker is doing a terrific job with his model of The DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN in On3, and his progress is well documented on line. If you are planning a layout of this most popular prototype (or any prototype, really) you should follow Lex's odessesy.
This is Art Fahie's amazing N scale layout, The Niagara & Pearl Creek Railroad Co. Art not only builds beautiful models, he photographs them beautifully as well. The Magic City is based on the extraordinary city of Amherst on his pike (with his gracious permission, of course: ). Many have built larger cities, few have built a more pleasing one. Art has captured everything necessary, and used ALL the tricks I have ever heard of in this splendid effort. Visit this site for inspiration... like we do.
A group of French model railroaders who have chosen to model American prototypes! A terrific site with a comprehensive set of tutorials on DCC, model photography, and beautiful layout tours. French and English versions are available for viewing, visit these folks... they really 'get it'! : )
The Toy Trunk Railroad - An adorable and FUNNY railroad themed cartoon strip! (You will swear you have "ridden" the TTR somewhere, before!)
7+ Railroader - These next two, if they are your cup of tea, are well worth looking into! Our friends Greg and Susan Robinson are very dedicated to trains and modeling in every scale!!!
The Athabasca System - A beautiful N scale layout, and a stunning site (get your plug-ins ready)!
WEBVILLE AND HYPERTEXT RAILROAD COMPANY © - Want to know ANYTHING about
trains, railroads, or model railroads? This is the place to go!
Chris Coleman has dedicated what must be a significant part of
his life to making sure you can find everything you are looking
for!
- A terrific site with something
for just about everyone. Lots of great photos & Links, and
narrow gauge stuff (check out "Slim Rails", too!).
TrainNet - "Everything on a Flanged Wheel" ... A well moderated, and well focused discussion forum on CompuServe. They are quite hospitable to new guests at this link.
Larry's HOn30 Page I just like this site. Larry Rickert has some great narrow gauge stuff, and some very esoteric links. Mark L. Evans, MCSE, has done an extraordinary job on this site! If you ever wished you could journey back in time to visit the Colorado narrow gauge in its heyday, Mark has built the machine to make your wish come true! The Historical Model Railway Society A UK Registered Educational Charity "The Historical Model Railway Society is the Senior Society in Britain for the collection and exchange of information for historian and modelers of the railways of the British Isles." The Oxford Companion to British Railway History, Pub O.U.P. A lovely site!
Youth in Model Railroading (YMR) is an internet club, its primary function is to get kids 9-18, involved with model railroading. "where the main theme is FUN!" (I like that!) If you are in this age group, by all means pay them a visit!
Model Railroad Tips, Tricks and Techniques is a great place to browse around for inspiration! Don Anderson has assembled a substantial number (and the list is growing all the time:) of clever ideas from modelers. The easy to follow navigation makes it easy to find cool info on most any topic you might be involved in.
The Island Pacific Railroad A perfect example of what can happen when you truly enjoy scenery building! Dave Inman has quite a "little" empire going in N scale, and he has some great photos to share with you. He really likes to have visitors, too... so go hit the IPRR!
Helpful & Nifty Links
RailServe : The Internet Railroad Directory - Over 2,000 rail-related links, search engine, forums, railfan chat rooms, and more! Model Railroader Magazine - Always a great place to start, and a definitive listing of links! Garden Railways Magazine - "Must See" reading for garden and larger scale railroaders. Loads of helpful articles and photos. Marc & Barbara ARE live steam garden railroaders/gardeners, themselves! NMRA Directory of World Wide Rail Sites - Probably THE definitive link listing. Railseek - A searchable database.
Manufacturers & Suppliers
Walthers, The Model Railroad Mall - The first and best, they have just about everything imaginable here. Grand Central Railway Station of Cyberspace - A COMPLETE listing of model railroad manufacturers/links ( ...and a source for Circuitron products). The Model Dockyard Catalog - Actually a ship builder's site, but a great place for esoteric and unusual supplies... especially for larger scales.
