The "Can"

The primary workhorse of the GCD sound system is the "can". Nicknamed by Brinton "Jonesy" Jones at a work session, the "can" is actually a 1 1/2" PVC pipe cap modified to work as a speaker enclosure. Each cap is lined with 3/16" rubber insulation (to reduce the ringing resonance of the PVC material), and also has an additional dampening layer of quilt batting in the bottom. A Circuitron 2" speaker is then epoxied into place to create a completely sealed enclosure. These little 0.2 watt enclosures can really "bark" when asked to. It's a twenty-eight foot cone, in N scale... a true concert sound reinforcement system!
