The Woofer
Two of the stereo vignettes on the GCD (the city at one end, and the wind through the Granite Canyon summit pass at the other end) have "quiet" low-mid and upper bass information in their programs. The "scale woofer" is specifically designed to work down into these regions. At the heart of these enclosures is a JBL 4"x6" car stereo driver. Each one is mounted in a one foot square 2" deep sealed wooden box mounted beneath the framework. These enclosures are not ported and are therefore relatively inefficient, but they are cleaner and more transperent in the low end as a result. Since we are working at scale volumes, they are quite well suited to their task. An additional larger Motorola tweeter array augments these two-way boxes for a total of four speaker elements per channel!
